I miss the rain

I didn't realize that I love the rain so much. I think it's been about 2-3 weeks since it's actually rained, and it the air feels so static to me. The smell in the air reminds me of Ireland, and it took me a few days to realize why. It's all the coal people burn at home. How strange this smell is to remember. My Irish cell phone is my alarm in the morning, and the sound I wake up to is the same ring-tone I had in Ireland. So not only does it smell like Ireland, it sounds like it's time for class at Oideas Gael. Huh.

All of my plane tickets between here and Dublin are booked. It goes like this: Freiburg-Frankurt by train, then fly to Sardinia, then Rome, then Frankfurt (again), then Nice in France, then to Dublin. I think I really want to take the ferry/train between Dublin and London. The prices aren't terrible, and it might be an interesting experience. And I really hate airports.

Tomorrow I leave for Freiburg, and haven't really packed anything yet. I have to also make sure that my backpack is under 15 kilos, and I'm not so sure that it is. I've put all my heavy stuff in my carry-on, in hopes that that will be good enough. Hooray, off to somewhere warmer! We booked our first two nights in a hostel in Cagliari, and hopefully we'll find couchsurfing for the rest of the time there, because it's EXPENSIVE.

Tomorrow Silke wants to find us some schwarzwälder kirschtorte! If we're lucky, we'll get some before I leave.

I'm Back!

Hello from the heart of the Black Forest, in southern Germany-- this time I promised to blog about my travel experiences, but it's been so hard to find the time, get the motivation to actually write down what I've been doing. This time I'll try harder (yeah right..), no really, I will.

I've been almost 3 weeks here in Simonswald working on a horse farm. Mostly the day consists of feeding the horses, eating breakfast, exercising the horses, cleaning the stable, lunch, random projects, feeding the horses, eating dinner, read/knit/internet. I've been able to go shopping here, taking the car out. It's pretty awesome :) We've visited nearby places like Triberg, and also Strasbourg in France! Our neighbor and friend Dieter was kind enough to take us by car over the border to France. The weather has been mostly snowy and cold, yuck!

On Saturday I'm leaving Germany for Sardinia, an island off of Italy! I know it wont be hot, but at least it wont be freezing! Emma and I will go early Saturday to Frankfurt to fly with Ryan Air. I'm very excited and a bit nervous.

I'll post a bit more later. Honest.
